The court also remanded the suspect in the same case, Peter Merinyan, in pre-trial detention for 30 days. He is a relative of Dodon.
In 2020, former MP Yuri Renitse released a video of a meeting between then-President Igor Dodon and Democratic Party leader Vladimir Plakhotnyuk and his deputy Sergei Yaralov. In the video, Dodon received a package from Plahotniuc. According to the deputy, he had a lot of money. The meeting took place in June 2019, a few days later Plakhotnyuk left the country.

In June 2020, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office refused to initiate criminal proceedings against Dodon because no signs of a crime had been identified. The decision was upheld by a Chisinau court, but on May 17, the Chisinau Court of Appeals overturned the first-instance decision.

It should be noted that former Moldovan President Igor Dodon was detained for 72 hours and his house and other facilities in Dodon in the Kalarash district were searched.
