Today, October 5, Kazakhstan celebrates the professional holiday of teachers, reports Adyrna.

For many years, the first Sunday of October was recognized as Teachers’ Day in the country. However, in 2023, amendments were made to the relevant decree, and the holiday was assigned a fixed date.

The establishment of World Teachers’ Day traces back to October 5, 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference on the Status of Teachers was held in Paris. As a result, representatives of UNESCO and the International Labour Organization signed the “Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.” World Teachers’ Day was celebrated for the first time on October 5, 1994.

According to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, nearly 600,000 teachers currently work across all educational institutions in the country. Of these, 399,247 are school teachers, 41,155 work in technical and vocational education institutions, and 100,566 are preschool educators.

In 2019, Kazakhstan adopted the Law “On the Status of Teachers,” which aims to increase teachers’ salaries, free them from non-teaching duties and unnecessary inspections, enhance their social standing, reduce their teaching workload, extend their annual leave, and introduce other incentives for educators.
