The President has dismissed the governor of Ulytau region from office

Berik Abdigaliuly has been dismissed from his position as the governor of the Ulytau region, reports “Adyrna” national portal. He was relieved of his duties by presidential decree on October 9. Abdigaliuly had served as the governor of Ulytau since June 2022.

Born on September 18, 1971, in Zhezkazgan, Karaganda region, Abdigaliuly graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in 1994 with a degree in history. He holds a PhD in political science and earned an MBA in Regional and Municipal Management from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration in 2017. He has authored 10 books and over 100 scholarly publications in both Kazakh and international journals.

From 1994 to 1997, he worked at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President, serving as a researcher, head of the internal policy department, and deputy director. From 1997 to 1999, he worked at the National Agency for Press and Mass Media and the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Public Accord.

Between 1999 and 2001, he was the Deputy Head of the Analysis Center at the Security Council. He served as deputy mayor of Temirtau in 2001–2002, and from 2002 to 2005, he was the director of the National Research Institute and president of the “Political Enlightenment Fund.” From 2005 to 2006, he advised the “Atameken” National Chamber of Entrepreneurs and served as the director of the “Atameken” National Development Center. He held various roles in the Presidential Administration from 2007 to 2008 and led the “State Language Development Fund” from 2008 to 2010.

He served as the governor of Ulytau district and mayor of Zhezkazgan from 2010 to 2012 and later advised the First Deputy Prime Minister in 2012. Between 2012 and 2013, he served as the mayor of Arkalyk in the Kostanay region and was appointed deputy governor of the Karaganda region in 2013. From 2016 to 2017, he was an advisor and senior researcher at the Institute for Strategic Studies under the President and held a research position at the Military-Historical Museum of the Armed Forces. He led the “Sacred Kazakhstan” Research Center at the National Museum from 2017 to 2019 and served as governor of Ulytau district from 2019 to 2021. He was a member of the VII convocation of the Kazakh Parliament’s Mazhilis from 2021 to 2022.
