An earthquake struck western Turkey for the second time in the last 48 hours, reports Adyrna.
The emergency occurred on October 27 at 10:48 p.m. local time (12:48 a.m. Astana time) in Balıkesir Province.
“The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.1, and its epicenter was near the town of Sındırgı in Balıkesir Province. The depth of the tremor was approximately 5.9 kilometers,” seismologists explained.
The tremors were also felt in the western districts of Istanbul. At around 10:50 p.m. (12:50 a.m. Astana time), the shaking lasted for about 30 seconds.
According to Turkey’s Ministry of Interior, there were no fatalities. However, three houses and one shop were destroyed in Balıkesir.
Earlier, the country’s disaster management agency reported a 3.7-magnitude earthquake in the Black Sea area near Istanbul. That quake occurred on October 26 at 9:44 p.m. Astana time.
