On March 5, French President Emmanuel Macron made significant statements regarding Ukraine in his address to the nation, according to the “Adyrna” national portal, citing local media.
In his speech, Macron described Russia as a country that poses a threat to France and Europe. He also expressed opposition to stopping the war in Ukraine.
“Russia’s words cannot be trusted. Ukraine has the right to peace and security, which aligns with our interests,” he said.
Macron declared that France is ready to discuss the use of its nuclear weapons for the security of all of Europe. Additionally, he stated his support for the possibility of deploying European troops to Ukraine.
Here are the key points from Macron’s address:
• “Russia is a threat to France and Europe. We negotiated the Minsk agreements in 2014, but Russia violated them. We cannot trust agreements made with Russia. By 2030, Russia plans to mobilize 3 million soldiers and produce 4,000 tanks. Peace will only return to our continent with a ‘pacified Russia.’ Peace must not come ‘at any cost’ or under Russia’s dictate, and Ukraine must not surrender.”
• He did not rule out the possibility of deploying European troops to Ukraine.
• He announced that France has decided to initiate discussions on using its nuclear weapons to protect the entire EU.
• “France has the most effective army in Europe.”
• Next week, France will gather the chiefs of staff from countries willing to ensure future peace in Ukraine.
• He warned that France would take retaliatory measures if the US imposes tariffs.
According to Macron, next week, military chiefs from countries ready to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine will meet in Paris.
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev quickly responded to Macron’s statements, saying:
“Macron himself is not particularly dangerous; he will leave the political stage no later than May 14, 2027.”
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova questioned why France’s new ambassador is heading to Moscow, given Macron’s rhetoric.
