Dmytro Lytvyn, the communications adviser to the President of Ukraine, opposed the U.S. proposal by special envoy Keith Kellogg to hold elections in the country by the end of the year, Adyrna reports, citing Deutsche Welle.

“We have not fully reviewed Mr. Kellogg’s interview, only came across a few quotes about the elections. Therefore, it is difficult to fully assess his position. However, if his plan is solely about a ceasefire and elections, I would like to say that this is a failed plan. We cannot scare Putin with just these two things,” he said.

Lytvyn also commented on the situation in Russia.

“Moscow continues to increase missile and ammunition production, find new ways to bypass sanctions, and generate revenue from oil. It is obvious that all these weapons are not being made out of respect for democratic neighbors. Russia’s military alliance with North Korea is also not about honoring a ceasefire,” the adviser added.

Previously, Keith Kellogg, the U.S. special representative on Ukraine under former President Donald Trump, suggested that Ukraine hold presidential and parliamentary elections by the end of the year, emphasizing that such elections are crucial for democracy in Ukraine.
