Renowned scholar Mekemtas Myrzakhmetuly has passed away

On January 11, 2025, a prominent figure in Kazakh science, Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor, and renowned scholar of Abai studies and Baurzhan studies, Mekemtas Myrzakhmetuly, passed away, as reported by the national portal “Adyrna.”

Born on May 9, 1930, in the village of Maitobe, Tulkibas district, Turkistan region, Mekemtas Myrzakhmetuly passed away at the age of 94.

His passion and dedication to science made him a profound researcher of Kazakh literature and culture. In 1953, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology at the Abai Kazakh Pedagogical Institute. Later, he pursued postgraduate studies, during which the support of Baurzhan Momyshuly became a significant milestone in his life.

Throughout his life, Myrzakhmetuly focused on studying the works of Abai Kunanbayuly, deeply analyzing the concept of the “Complete Human.” He explored the foundations of Abai’s concept, viewing it as the cornerstone for the spiritual development of youth.

Among his notable works is a ten-volume comprehensive study on Abai. Additionally, he gathered valuable insights into the development of philosophical systems such as Yassawi’s teachings and Shakarim’s “Science of the Soul,” establishing himself as a towering figure in Kazakh spirituality.

Mekemtas Myrzakhmetuly held positions in various scientific research institutes and universities in Kazakhstan. From 1975 to 1991, he headed the Abai Studies department at the Institute of Literature and Art of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences. He also served as the head of the department and scientific centers at the Khoja Ahmed Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.

Mekemtas Myrzakhmetuly is expected to be laid to rest in the Tulkibas district of the Turkistan region.
