A devastating earthquake struck Tibet, resulting in 53 fatalities and 62 injuries, according to reports from local media, as cited by the national portal “Adyrna.”

The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.8, with the epicenter near the city of Shigatse, where the tremors reached a magnitude of 7.1.

The earthquake was registered in Shigatse, and witnesses reported feeling the tremors in Nepal, India, Bhutan, and Bangladesh as well.

Residents of the affected city fled their homes in panic. The earthquake’s epicenter was located in Tingri County, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

According to BNO News, at least 53 people died and 38 were injured. Nearly a thousand homes were destroyed in the Tingri area, which was identified as the epicenter of the quake.

Approximately 62,000 people live in the affected area. The CENC noted that this is the most destructive earthquake in the region in the past five years.
