The budget will provide support for the development of children’s content in the Kazakh language, reports the national portal “Adyrna.” This was announced by Mazhilis Deputy Askhat Aimagambetov.

The deputy highlighted that there are very few cartoons in Kazakh, especially on accessible platforms like YouTube, where they are almost nonexistent.

“There are very few Kazakh-language cartoons, and on accessible platforms like YouTube, they are almost absent. This is a major issue today, as children are choosing to watch the internet and YouTube more than television. Instead of limiting them to cartoons like Blue Tractor and Masha and the Bear, children should have access to quality and engaging Kazakh-language cartoons. For this purpose, during the review of next year’s budget project, we introduced a provision to allocate 350 million tenge for creating Kazakh-language cartoons and ensuring they are not only shown on TV but also uploaded to the internet, including YouTube. We believe this will expand children’s access to interesting content in the Kazakh language,” the deputy wrote.

He also pointed out specific challenges in producing Kazakh children’s content.

“For example, due to the low fees paid by the Balapan TV channel to content creators, they often work primarily to support the Kazakh language and operate more as volunteers. We hope that the additional funding allocated through this budget will help improve the quality of Kazakh content,” said Askhat Aimagambetov.

The Ministry of Science has been advised to conduct a study on the consumption of Kazakh content among children. In the future, there are plans to connect with copyright holders to translate global hit cartoons into Kazakh and upload them on YouTube.
