The Palestinian Hamas movement has announced the name of the new head of the political bureau to replace Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Iran, reports the national portal "Adyrna" with reference to the Euronews website.

It was reported that Yahya Sinwar was elected as the new leader of the political movement.

According to media reports, Yahya Sinwar has spent half of his life in Israeli prisons. He is the most powerful Hamas leader to survive the assassination of Haniya. Sinwar is also called the organizer of the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Sinwar's exact whereabouts are unknown, but media reports suggest he may still be hiding in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz called for the "immediate destruction" of Sinwar.

"The appointment of the chief terrorist Yahya Sinwar to replace Ismail Haniya as the new head of Hamas is another convincing reason to destroy him as soon as possible and completely wipe this evil organization from the face of the earth," he wrote on the social network.

Let us remind you that Ismail Hania was killed in the explosion of a bomb planted in a hotel in Tehran on the night of July 31. Hamas and Iran blame Israel for the killing, but state authorities have neither confirmed nor denied their involvement.
