In Petropavl, all dams and man-made barriers have been destroyed, residents of the flooded areas are being completely evacuated, reports the national portal "Adyrna" with reference to the Tengrinews.kz site.
One after the other, the dams built around the city by rescuers, utility workers, construction workers, company employees and volunteers collapsed under the pressure of the heavy water. The flood water first overtopped the dam in the village of Kozhevny, and then destroyed the earth fence on the ring road in the Reachport district.
"These structures can no longer hold water, the only thing left is to evacuate," Yevgeny Zhuravlev, press secretary of the regional emergency department, told Tengrinews.kz.
Now, complete relocation of "Kojevenny", "Podgora" and "Kosogor" compact areas is underway. The water is right in front of our eyes and in a few minutes it rises to the roofs of the buildings.
“Yesterday we were warned to evacuate, we thought there was still time, but the water has completely drained from the bypass. For a week, the rescuers kicked us out of our houses, I ran out of the house and looked, the neighboring yard was flooded," said Maria Vladimirova, a resident of Kosogor.
The woman said that they had recently renovated and bought furniture.
Evacuation is currently underway. Sirens went off across the city, lifeguards and police warned of danger and asked everyone to leave their homes.
