The Department of Emergency Situations (Emergency Situations Department) of the city of Almaty, commenting on the situation regarding the earthquake early warning system belonging to Nurali Aliyev, the nephew of ex-president Nursultan Nazarbayev, said that it is undergoing a trial period, the national portal "Adyrna" reports.
"At the end of 2023, the construction of 28 seismic stations of the Automated Early Warning System (AEWS) was completed by order of the Department of Emergency Situations of the city of Almaty. The project was implemented in stages: by 2022 - construction of 11 seismic stations, by 2023 - construction of 17 seismic stations. Currently, the system has been put into trial use and, according to foreign practice, has passed the approval period and is in the test mode. The testing period of the system will last approximately until the end of the first half of the year," said the message issued on Wednesday.
Let's recall that after the January 23 earthquake in Almaty, 1.1 billion tenge was spent on the automated disaster warning system, and it became known that it stopped working. Executive director of "Adillik Zholy" public association (PA) Didar Smagulov said that the company responsible for early warning of earthquakes to Almaty residents and receiving 1.1 billion tenge for its services belongs to Nurali Aliyev, nephew of ex-president Nazarbayev.
