A video about counterfeit 5,000 tenge banknotes in circulation has gone viral on social media, causing public concern, reports the Adyrna national portal.
The author of the video, posted on TikTok, claims that it is difficult to distinguish the counterfeit money from genuine banknotes, except for the phrase “پرازدنۋەم ۆمەستە” (“celebrating together”) found on one side of the fake notes.
The National Bank has issued a statement regarding the videos circulating on social media.
“The National Bank warns about the spread of advertisements on social media and messengers offering printed products resembling genuine national currency banknotes, with foreign inscriptions such as ‘پرازدنۋەم ۆمەستە!’ and ‘نە ياۆلياەتسيا پلاتەجنىم سرەدستۆوم’ (‘Not a means of payment’). These products are considered counterfeit. The National Bank has submitted a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to investigate the distribution of such items. We urge the public to pay special attention to inscriptions on banknotes and carefully verify their authenticity when handling them,” the statement reads.
