In the first nine months of 2024, 1,451 people from China and 1,088 from Mongolia moved to Kazakhstan for permanent residence, reports Adyrna.

Compared to the same period in 2023, this marks an increase of 177% for migrants from China and 172% for those from Mongolia. This influx is the highest number of migrants from China since 2017 and from Mongolia since 2011.

Most of these migrants are ethnic Kazakhs, with 98% from China and 99% from Mongolia identifying as such. Approximately one-fifth of those from China chose to settle in the Almaty region, while half moved to major cities like Astana and Almaty. Among the migrants from Mongolia, the Akmola region is the most popular, attracting 33%، with nearly one-third opting to live in the capital and Almaty.
