Young Kazakh chess players won three silver and one bronze medal at the World Youth Chess Championship (U14-U18) held in Brazil, reports “Adyrna.”

In particular, in the Open 14 category, International Master (IM) Edgar Mamedov won silver, as did Woman International Master (WIM) Amina Kairbekova in Girls 18 and IM Aldiyar Ansat in Open 18. Additionally, IM Sauat Nurgaliev won bronze in Open 14.

“The success of our youth at the World Championship is yet more evidence of the effectiveness of our strategy to support chosen talents. Among these young players, we see the future of Kazakhstani chess and future world champions. I sincerely congratulate our young chess players and everyone who contributed to their success,” said Timur Turlov, President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, on November 9.

It should be noted that the U14–U18 World Championship is one of the few tournaments held in a classical format similar to adult tournaments, conducted in 11 rounds under the Swiss system. Each player has 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an additional 30 seconds added per move.
