Member of Parliament Ermurats Bapi advised Stanislav Cherchesov, the head coach of the Kazakhstan national football team, to respect the language and treat the team with dignity, as reported by the “Adyrna” national portal.
“Greetings to Cherchesov. I would advise him to pay attention to his last name. He should respect not only his coaching position but also the team that has become Kazakhstan’s ‘national’ squad and take full responsibility for it. He came to coach a national team, not a club. One of the main qualities of a nation is its language.
Even if he is called the national team coach, he should treat the language with respect,” Bapi said outside the Parliament on Wednesday.
It is worth recalling that Cherchesov previously responded to a question posed by a Kazakh journalist in the state language with the question, “Do you speak French now?” His statement sparked outrage among the people of Kazakhstan.
Additionally, this is not the first time he has made such a statement. On October 15, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports demanded an explanation from the Football Federation of Kazakhstan (FFK) regarding Cherchesov’s comments about the question in Kazakh.
It should be noted that after Cherchesov was appointed head coach of the Kazakhstan football team in June, eight members of the FFK executive committee resigned.
To date, under Cherchesov’s leadership, Kazakhstan has played four official matches in the UEFA Nations League and currently ranks 109th in the FIFA rankings.
