At the meeting with the participation of Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Alan Piyu, Managing Director for Central Asia Zhuzhanna Hargitay and EBRD Director for Kazakhstan Husein Ozkhan, implementation of "green" projects, as well as by issuing "green bonds" issues of joint financing of programs for improving the infrastructure of the city were discussed in detail, the reporter of "Adyrna" reported.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to environmental issues. EBRD Vice-President Alan Piu presented the "Green City" action plan, which identified a pool of projects to solve environmental problems in cooperation with government agencies. The transition of Almaty CHP-2 from coal to gas will be the main project for the city, where EBRD is one of the creditors. The parties discussed the implementation of modernization of CHP 2.
One of the directions of the "Green City" action plan is to create a high-precision digital copy of the urban infrastructure and the processes of the "Digital Copy" project. The system includes climate change, public transportation, population growth. A platform for processing infrastructure stress testing data under various conditions, including problems.
During the meeting, issues of joint financing were discussed. The reforms underway in the country allow the megalopolis to launch a new mechanism of financing - "green" bonds.
Also, the parties agreed to improve energy efficiency and energy saving, modernize engineering infrastructure to reduce water and heat costs, etc. in Almaty also focused on the implementation of ESG-projects.
Mayor of the city Yerbolat Dosayev noted that EBRD has been a major strategic investor for Kazakhstan and Almaty for 30 years. He thanked the EBRD team for their active cooperation, confirmed his readiness to continue cooperation with the Bank in the current direction of "Green City".
At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed the priority areas of future work and ways to enter a new stage of active cooperation.
