Almaty residents are signing a petition demanding the resignation of Bakytzhan Sagintayev, the national portal Adyrna reports citing Stan.kz.
The petition demanding the resignation of Almaty Mayor Bakytzhan Sagintayev received more than 7,000 signatures in a few hours. It is addressed to the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
According to the authors of the petition, signed by Almaty residents, Sagintayev "failed the most important test of his life. In the most difficult days, he did not support the people of the city, both morally and physically."
"He did not even appear on the air and address the people of Almaty. He did not show support. We did not see the mayor in public until January 8," the petition notes.
