On the night of January 5, 2022, protesters in the city of Taldykorgan demolished the monument of ex-president Nursultan Nazarbayev. This monument was built in 2016, on the eve of the First President's Day, when Amandyk Batalov was in charge of the region, that is, Almaty region. The monument placed on the National Symbols Square was not put back in its place after it was toppled in the January incident.
Those who toppled this monument during the terrible January, first hanged it on a gallows and then covered it with dirt. The picture with the sign "Nazarbayev Avenue" falling in the background has become one of the best works in the genre of documentary photography.
