Two high-speed trains collided in Spain, resulting in the deaths of 21 people. Around 100 others were injured, 30 of them in critical condition. This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to Adyrna.

The tragic incident occurred on the evening of January 18 in Spain’s Córdoba province.

An Iryo company train traveling from Málaga to Madrid derailed and veered onto a neighboring track, where it crashed into an oncoming train heading toward Huelva. The cause of the accident is still unknown. According to Spanish media, there were about 400 passengers on board both trains.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said he is closely monitoring the situation. The Spanish royal family also expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

Reuters reported that rescue teams are still working at the site, searching for survivors among the train passengers.

The head of the Adamuz municipality, where the trains derailed, said he was one of the first to arrive at the scene.

“I saw passengers who were beyond recognition,” he told El País.
