On April 4, a well-known gastroenterologist was shot dead in Almaty. The doctor was killed in a parking lot near his house. The suspect was soon arrested. Police claimed that Shumkov may have been shot by a patient he was treating, the national portal Adyrna reported, citing Astana.
As usual, Yuri Shumkov arrived at the parking lot near his house on Monday and set his car on fire. The driver of the car was first shot from a distance. The assailant then shot his victim again. Sadykzhan Yuldashev, a parking guard, was one of the first to see the wounded doctor.
"I heard gunshots. I came, there was blood everywhere. At first I didn't even know who he was. He was shot in the mouth. His face was completely covered in blood," said security guard Sadykzhan Yuldashev.
Witnesses told that the doctor was still alive after two shots. The bully was not in a hurry to leave the crime scene. A blue car was waiting for him on the way.
"He ran in front of me with a weapon. He must have been waiting, he got in the car and left. I only saw the license plate. The car is blue, number 309," Sadykzhan Yuldashev added.
The criminal was immediately searched. A special arrest warrant was issued in the city and the suspect was arrested a few hours later. He is a 35-year-old resident of the city. Police said the suspect mihgt have been a doctor's patient.
