The Konayev court found journalist Duman Muhammedkarim guilty of "financing extremism" and "interfering in the work of a banned organization" and sentenced him to seven years in prison. Lawyer Galym Nurpeyisov stated about this, the "Adyrna" national portal reported referring to Azattyk website.
In addition, the court banned the journalist from social and political work for three years.
"We will definitely appeal the verdict. Now they are going to take Duman to Taldykorgan," the lawyer told Azattik.
According to information, the verdict was read online, and the media and supporters could not attend it. The parties themselves participated with Zoom.
It should be noted that earlier, the prosecutor requested that the journalist be deprived of his freedom for seven years and prohibited from engaging in social and political work for three years.
Duman Muhammedkarim became widely known in political circles after the January incident. He broadcasted from the center of chaos in Almaty during the massacre that killed at least 238 people.
