The procedure for applying chemical castration to individuals convicted of pedophilia has come into force. This change was introduced as part of amendments to the “Rules for Applying Compulsory Medical Measures,” approved by an order of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reports “Adyrna.”
According to the new regulation, chemical castration will be carried out in psychiatric or outpatient medical institutions based on a court decision.
“When six months remain before the convict’s release, the administration of the correctional facility submits materials to the court to request a forensic psychiatric examination. Based on the results of this examination, a decision is made on whether to apply chemical castration,” the Ministry’s statement said.
Chemical castration applies only to individuals over the age of 18 who have committed crimes of a pedophilic nature. This measure is enforced solely by a court decision that has legal force and does not apply to persons with mental disorders.
