Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the “Adyrna” national portal.

According to Zelensky, they exchanged views on the situation on the front lines. They also discussed potential sanctions against Russia.

“The most important thing is to stop the war. We thank the U.S. President for his efforts toward a just and lasting peace. Currently, decisions have been made by the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark — Ukraine will receive over $1 billion in U.S. weapons aid. This cooperation with NATO countries will continue,” Zelensky emphasized.

In the Ukrainian president’s opinion, the sanctions promised by Trump against Russia could change a lot. Previously, the U.S. President had pledged to impose additional tariffs on Russia and its trading partners if no progress is made in resolving the conflict. This ultimatum expires on August 8.

Additionally, the two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.

“The Ukrainian side has already prepared a draft agreement regarding drones, and we are ready to discuss and approve it in detail. This could be one of the strongest agreements,” Zelensky said.
