On November 13, 2024, during the COP 29 World Climate Summit held in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan signed an important agreement on strategic partnership in the production and supply of “green” energy, reports the “Adyrna” national portal.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the significance of this document, describing it as a new historic step in the three countries’ path towards sustainable development:

“Signing the strategic partnership agreement is an important milestone in the development of the Central Asia and South Caucasus regions. This document will allow us to integrate our energy systems and create reliable corridors for delivering clean energy to Europe and other markets. In this regard, Kazakhstan plays a key role as a major transit region. Additionally, the practical outcomes of this agreement will contribute to the development of the Middle Corridor, which will act as a ‘green bridge.’ The cooperation between the three countries will enhance the exchange of modern technologies and experiences, paving the way for strengthening energy security.”

Kazakhstan prioritizes the development of “green” energy. The President emphasized the country’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality:

“We are actively working to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. By developing technological innovations and creating infrastructure that supports environmental sustainability, we have achieved significant success. Currently, agreements have been made with foreign partners to implement ‘green’ projects with a capacity of 43 GW.”

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the agreement would elevate the brotherly and strategic partnership relations between the countries to a new level:

“The regions of Central Asia and the Caucasus have been working together harmoniously in many areas, including the development of ‘green’ energy. We know that Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have large plans and achievements in the creation of renewable energy sources.”

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the economic as well as ecological importance of the project:

“This project will reduce the negative impact on the climate by using wind and solar energy. Thus, we will contribute to achieving our common goals of climate protection under the Paris Agreement.”

This agreement not only strengthens cooperation between the three countries but also opens new opportunities for the development of “green” energy at the regional and global levels.
