Today has been declared a day of mourning in Serbia, as reported by the “Adyrna” national portal. According to the BBC, a concrete roof collapsed at the train station in Novi Sad, Serbia’s most populous city, resulting in the deaths of 14 people.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed hope that this would be the final death toll, noting, “We hope this is the final count; 14 people have died. We were unable to identify five of them,” just hours after the tragic incident. Alongside the fatalities, three people sustained injuries.

The train station had undergone renovations in 2021, but it appears additional work was done this year in preparation for its official reopening scheduled for July 5. Serbian authorities have declared Saturday a day of mourning to honor the victims of this tragic accident.
