President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev voted at polling station №211, located at the Presidential Center, in the national referendum concerning the construction of a nuclear power plant, as reported by the national portal Adyrna, citing the Akorda press service.

After casting his vote, the President held a briefing for local media representatives, where he expressed his thoughts on the referendum and his expectations for its outcome.

“Today is a historic day. Our people are voting on the issue of building a nuclear power plant. A referendum is a very effective tool of direct democracy. Whatever decision our people make will be the ultimate determination of our state. I believe the result will be positive. This is indeed a decisive event. That’s why I support the referendum,” Tokayev stated.

He also addressed a question regarding which country would oversee the construction if the referendum results favor building the nuclear power plant.

“This is not an easy issue. The government must conduct analyses and engage in appropriate negotiations. In my opinion, an international consortium made up of world companies with the most advanced technologies should operate in Kazakhstan. The future will show the rest,” the President added.
