The anti-corruption service detained Bagdat Karasaev, the mayor of the Ile district of the Almaty region, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
"He was charged under the articles "Abuse of official powers (Article 361, Clause 3 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan)" and "Abuse of power or authority" (Article 3, Article 4362) of the Criminal Code," the report said. "Antikor" press service announced on Wednesday.
Karasaev was imprisoned in a temporary detention facility.
Bagdat Karasaev was born in 1964 in Dzerzhinsk. He was the mayor of Taldykorgan city, adviser to the mayor of Almaty region.
Since 2018, he has served as mayor of Ile district of Almaty region.
