Former Emergencies Minister Yuriy Ilyin is being investigated for negligence and neglect of his duties. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs Marat Akhmetzhanov, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
The President has instructed the General Prosecutor's Office, based on which the investigation will be conducted. The forest fire was an emergency situation, there was a loss of life, therefore, an investigation will be held during the criminal case, and the facts of why timely measures were not taken, negligence, improper performance of duties will be investigated, - said the Minister of Internal Affairs Marat Akhmetzhanov, answering the questions of journalists on Tuesday.
Also, the minister said that the cause of the fire in Abay region could be arson, negligence or lightning. The ministry has been given two months to investigate the situation.
Let's remind that the forest fire in Abay region burned 60 thousand hectares of land and 14 foresters were killed. Now another person is being sought. The Ministry of Emergencies reported that the fire area has decreased from 60 thousand hectares to 43 thousand hectares. Residents of the villages that may have caught fire were evacuated to the city of Semipalatinsk.
