The anti-corruption service is investigating a number of criminal cases against the officials of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, "Adyrna" portal reports.
"Antikor" was interested in the period when Dauren Abaev was the Minister of Culture and Sports, and now it is being checked how legally the holding of the international film festival "Eurasia" in 2022 was carried out.
"The Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan is investigating a number of criminal cases against the officials of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan," answered Kanat Suleymenov, the head of the pre-trial investigation service.
Abayev headed the Ministry of Culture and Sports from January 2022 to January 2023. Before that, he was the first deputy head of the presidential administration from May 2020, and before that, he headed the Ministry of Information and Communications from 2016. He was also the press secretary (2011-2015) and adviser (2013-2016) of Nursultan Nazarbayev during his tenure as the President of Kazakhstan.
Since March 2023, Abayev has been the Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, whose executive committee is located in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
Let's recall that on December 5, 2022, it became known that Kazakh filmmakers expressed concern about the "methods" of holding the "Eurasia" film festival. They questioned the legality of the state procurement tender for services provided for the film festival.
