Kazakhstan’s Member of Parliament, Magerram Magerramov, stated during a session of the Mazhilis that gender reassignment should be banned, Adyrna national portal reports.

According to the MP, current legislation allows gender reassignment for mentally sound citizens over the age of 21 who have been diagnosed with gender identity disorder. However, he emphasized the need to reconsider this policy.

Magerramov believes that gender identity disorder is a type of mental or behavioral deviation and that it should not be corrected through surgery or hormone therapy.

“If a person does not have a physical anomaly but feels like they belong to the opposite gender, this issue may be related to a psychological or behavioral disorder. Therefore, performing surgery on a healthy individual is inappropriate,” the MP stated.

Additionally, he pointed out the illogicality of “treating” behavioral or psychological disorders through surgical methods.

“The NPK faction demands a ban on gender reassignment surgery until amendments to the law are made,” Magerram Magerramov declared.
