The Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov, reviewed the project for the construction of the light rail transit (LRT) system in the capital, according to the “Adyrna” national portal.
He stated that the pace of construction work is increasing, and it is important not to slow down the construction process. The main concrete structures of the stations are planned to be completed by the end of 2024. Next year, work will include laying the tracks, finishing the stations, and constructing a depot for the delivery of rolling stock, as well as landscaping the elevated sections along Kabangbay Batyr Avenue and Kaldaiakov Street.

According to the government press service, the phase of laying the girders for the LRT viaduct has been completed.

“The total length of the light rail network will be 22.4 km, comprising 18 stations. It is planned to launch 19 rolling stock units, each capable of accommodating 652 passengers. The interval between trains will be 4-5 minutes. In the initial phase, the daily passenger flow is projected to be 25,000 people, with peak flow potentially reaching 92,000 people per day. The payment system will be based on a city analogue, allowing payments through the validation of transport cards or via QR codes,” the statement said.

During his visit, the Prime Minister was briefed on the technological solutions being used in the construction process.

“Leading Chinese companies known for adhering to high standards, such as China Construction Sixth Bureau, Yunnan Construction and Investment Holding Group Co., Longjian Road and Bridge Co., Tianjin Rail Transit Group Co., and CRRC Tangshan Co LTD, are involved in the project implementation. Additionally, companies like CRSC International, CASCO, and HUAWEI Smart Transport BU are participating in regulating the communication, alarm, and automation systems that ensure the safe and efficient operation of the transport system,” said the government press service.

Zhou Haiwei, the CEO of China Railway Asia-Europe Construction, reported that innovative technologies are being utilized.

“The Head of State is paying significant attention to the development of our transport system. A considerable amount of work has been done to prepare the infrastructure for the LRT project, and funding has been allocated. The LRT will serve the residents and guests of the capital. The pace of construction is increasing, and it is important not to slow it down. The project must be implemented to the highest standards. Oversight by the city administration and central government agencies must be intensified. We are focused on achieving results,” said the Prime Minister.
