We are going to hold a national referendum on changes and amendments to the Constitution of Uzbekistan. Voting is planned for the spring of 2023, the national portal "Adyrna" reports.

"Ozodlik" radio reported on December 21, referring to sources in the government, that the voting will take place after Nauryz.

It was also announced that observers from the European Union, Great Britain and the United States were invited to vote.

The most notable amendment is the extension of the presidential term from five to seven years. If the new Constitution is adopted, the periods during which the current head of state Shavkat Mirziyaev ran for office will be canceled. There is an opportunity for him to run for the presidential election again.

The referendum was expected to be held at the end of this year. However, this plan was not implemented due to unrest in the Republic of Karakalpakstan at the beginning of July.

The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan has not yet set a date for the referendum.
