President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has proposed holding a competition to select the best name for the country’s first nuclear power plant, Adyrna National Portal reports.

He made this statement during a meeting with the winners of international subject Olympiads. According to the President, the achievements of young people in prestigious international competitions demonstrate the intellectual potential of the nation and the high capabilities of the younger generation.

“Our country needs scientists, engineers, teachers, doctors, and other highly qualified specialists. In particular, specialists in the field of artificial intelligence will be in high demand,” he said.

The President noted that innovations and high technologies are laying a solid foundation for the country’s development for decades to come. He also emphasized that Kazakhstan has officially begun, in cooperation with the Russian company Rosatom, the construction of its first nuclear power plant, which holds strategic importance.

“A nuclear power plant is not just an energy facility; it is a vivid symbol of scientific and technological progress. For now, it has no name. Since this is the first facility of its kind in our country, I believe we can hold a nationwide competition to give it a name. I invite you to participate in this contest and show your creativity. Perhaps one of your suggestions will be considered when we make our decision,” the Head of State said.
