The spiritual leader of the Ismaili Nizaris, founder of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, passed away in Lisbon at the age of 88, reports the national portal “Adyrna,” citing 24.kg.

This was officially announced by the Ismaili Imamat Diwan institution.

Aga Khan IV had led the Ismaili community since 1957. He assumed this role at the age of 20, succeeding his grandfather.

According to tradition, the new Imam is designated through the will of the previous leader. The name of the new Imam is expected to be announced in the coming days after the publication of Karim Aga Khan’s will.

In Kyrgyzstan, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) has been actively operating since 2002. The foundation implements various projects in education, healthcare, and rural development.

In 2000, the presidents of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, along with the spiritual leader of the Ismaili Nizaris, reached an agreement to establish a prestigious university in Central Asia (CAU). One of its campuses was supposed to be built in the Tekeli region of the Zhetysu region in Kazakhstan. However, Kazakhstan has not yet fulfilled this agreement.

There are several conflicting opinions regarding this issue. One possible reason for the delay in the agreement’s implementation may be related to religious matters.
