The head of the National Public Health Center, Aizhan Esmagambetova, stated that there are no plans to introduce quarantine in Kazakhstan due to the spread of metapneumovirus, reports the national portal “Adyrna.”

According to Esmagambetova, the current epidemiological situation in the country is stable.

“We are in the middle of the epidemiological season. Compared to last year, the incidence rate is 20% lower. However, an increase in illnesses is usually observed in January, with a decline by mid-February. At the moment, there is no reason to introduce quarantine or restrictive measures. We monitor the incidence and spread of the virus almost daily,” she said in a video posted on Facebook.

Esmagambetova noted that in healthy individuals with strong immunity, the virus might be asymptomatic.

“Complications are more dangerous when dealing with viral infections, flu, or flu-like infections. Metapneumovirus can cause pneumonia, otitis, and other complications related to the respiratory system,” she added.

Additionally, Esmagambetova advised Kazakhstani citizens to avoid crowded places, wear masks, and ventilate rooms frequently.

It is worth noting that on Sunday, an outbreak of a new viral disease called metapneumovirus (hMPV) was reported in China. The virus spread rapidly, leading to overcrowded hospitals.
