Kazakhstan may host the World Athletics Championships in 2024

President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan Timur Kulibayev received President of the Asian Athletics Association Dahlan Al-Hamad in Almaty, the national portal Adyrna reports citing the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.

The meeting was also attended by the President of the Athletics Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan ,Danial Akhmetov.

"Athletics is one of the most popular sports. Kazakhstan has a rich tradition of athletics. Therefore, the development of this sport is one of our priorities. The National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan is open to cooperation with the Asian Athletics Association and other international organizations," Timur Kulibayev said.

Prospects for the development of athletics in the region, the project to establish a regional athletics center in Nur-Sultan and the possibility of holding the World Athletics Championships in Kazakhstan in 2024 were discussed.

"Kazakhstan will host the Asian Athletics Championships in 2022. More than 600 athletes from 45 countries of the region will take part in it. This event should be a test event before the 2024 World Championships.
I see the rapid development of Olympic sports in Kazakhstan. I was especially impressed by your approach to the construction of sports facilities. The Kazakhstan complex in Nur-Sultan is a unique building that I have never seen before, "Dahlan al-Hamad said.

The President of the Asian Athletics Association arrived in Kazakhstan for the opening of the XXX Qosanov Memorial International Tournament. The anniversary tournament will be held with the status of a bronze medal in the continental tour of the World Athletics. Licenses for the Olympic Games in Tokyo will be drawn.
