The first person infected with the monkey virus has died in China. The virus is scientifically called the "Monkey B" virus. It is the only virus that can infect humans from apes.
According to the Global Times, the first person was a veterinarian who died from the virus. Her family members were examined and taken under medical supervision. The 53-year-old veterinarian slaughtered two monkeys in March and examined them. A month later he was hospitalized with symptoms of vomiting and dizziness.
Authorities are concerned that no cases of the monkey virus have been reported in China so far. In April, doctors took samples of spinal fluid from an infected patient and tested positive for the virus.
