In 2023, 3.7 million tons of cotton and 8 million tons of grain were harvested in Uzbekistan for the first time. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyev announced this at the meeting held on February 12, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.

"Such numbers have never been seen in our modern history," his press secretary Sherzod Asadov is quoted as saying.

It is not specified what period is meant by "recent history". For example, more than 3.7 million tons of cotton were collected in Uzbekistan in 2007, and more than 8 million tons of grain were collected in 2014.

The meeting focused on increasing productivity, reducing costs and saving water in agriculture, as well as future plans.

Shavkat Mirziyev, in particular, noted that the average yield per hectare in Uzbekistan is lower than in advanced countries, while fertilizer, fuel and water are used twice as much. According to Mirziyev, the producers of goods have the opportunity to increase the yield of cotton to 50 centners and grain crops to 100 centners per hectare by bringing high-yielding seeds and training farmers in new agricultural technologies.
