Militants from the radical Taliban were unable to cross into Panjshir. This was reported in Western media. Fighting broke out between opposition forces and the Taliban in the Andarob area of Baghlan province.
The resistance was led by Tugrali Andaroba. He retreated from the Taliban, led the militants into a mountain gorge and surrounded them. Eighty-five Taliban fighters were shot dead and seven militants were captured. Masood's forces also seized more than 20 military vehicles and firearms. It is said that the important Hovak heights passed into the hands of the Panjshir people.
Panjshir remains the only province not subject to the Taliban. Anti-Taliban forces are joining forces in the region.
