Kazakh wrestlers have been making waves globally over the past week. Just yesterday, Nurkozha Kaipanov became a world champion in freestyle wrestling. Before that, our golden girl, Zhamila Bakbergenova, claimed a silver medal on the world stage. A few days earlier, Rizabek Aitmukhan won gold at the world championship for wrestlers under 23. These are historic victories.
Rizabek is the first Kazakh to become a world champion in all three age categories! Zhamila has been bringing home medals from world competitions for four consecutive years. And Nurkozha’s achievement speaks for itself.
However, these young men and women, who are raising our blue flag high and enhancing our country’s image on the international stage, have yet to be properly rewarded. None of them have received a car, let alone an apartment. Where are the generous and noble citizens of Kazakhstan? If we consider tribal affiliations, surely, someone wealthy from the tribe that ruled the country for thirty years could come forward to reward their sister Zhamila with luxury.
It’s been said that our Kyrgyz brothers sent a message to those involved in wrestling. They remarked that if no Kazakh can provide cars to our three champions, a Kyrgyz will step up to do it. This would be a disgrace, a national shame.
I’m writing this in the hope that our wealthy patrons, who often spend lavishly on trivial matters, might give it some thought. If only I had the means, I would gladly give each of them an apartment and a car myself.
