More than 3 billion people live in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev announced this today at the meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the SCO. According to him, today the Organization has become an effective mechanism of interstate relations operating on the basis of friendship, good neighborliness, equal rights and mutual support, i.e. "Shanghai spirit".
"More than three billion people live in the territory of the SCO. The organization includes countries with very large and rapidly developing economies. One third of the world gross domestic product belongs to these countries. This clearly shows the enormous potential and global role of our Organization. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has shown itself to be a unique platform, where the voice and interests of the member states are taken into account equally. I am sure that our long-term cooperation based on such an unshakable democratic foundation will be filled with new content, - said Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
