Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev reminded at the extended meeting of the Government that "there was also a demand for water", the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
"Inhabitants of developed countries know the value of everything. Thrift has become their way of life. Even children are taught not to waste water and heat from an early age. Our citizens should be so frugal. In particular, we should use water sparingly. I keep saying that the water shortage is increasing. According to experts, the demand for water will increase by 50 percent by 2040. By 2050, Kazakhstan may enter the category of countries "in dire need of water". Now more than 600 thousand people in the country need clean drinking water. This is a very urgent issue not only for the rural people, but also for the urban population. The infrastructure of big cities is not able to respond to the demand that is increasing year by year. Even in Astana itself, the water shortage began to be felt. One of the main reasons is the increase in construction. "If we are not frugal, we will not be able to eliminate the deficit even if we launch new facilities that provide clean water," said the Head of State.
