It will probably be a long time before our citizens realize that it is not good to steal from their own. Meanwhile, in 2021, in the Transparency International ranking, Kazakhstan showed high rates of corruption. The country was in 102nd place, ahead of Armenia, Belarus, but having improved its performance in comparison with Russia and Ukraine. Experts agree that corruption has soaked into the mentality of our society and has become an integral part of the life of Kazakh citizens.

The leading positions in this ranking are occupied by such countries as Denmark, Finland, and New Zealand. They have the lowest level of corruption crimes.

Denmark has been leading the anti-corruption ranking since the 1990s. This country has the most incorruptible officials. Their selection is rigorous. First of all, mental and moral characteristics are taken into account.

In the fight against corruption, not only anti-corruption initiatives and laws help, but also a high level of self-awareness of citizens. Many Danish businesses have a zero tolerance policy for bribes.

If you get a job in Denmark, you will have to sign a contract stating that you will not accept or give bribes. If you refuse, you may not be hired and receive a negative personal reference.

The basic principle of fighting corruption in Denmark is psychological hygiene. Corruption is an unworthy phenomenon that causes condemnation and criticism in society. Every official suspected of corruption instantly says goodbye to his career. Budgetary and financial control is open and transparent. Information about the income of officials is in the public domain.

Danish civil servants receive high salaries. The state provides them with social guarantees, good pensions, free medical and educational services. The level of social support from government agencies is high. This reduces the risk of corruption.

How to be Kazakhstan?

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, condemned corruption and noted that giving bribes has become a habitual measure for Kazakhstanis.

“We are actively fighting corruption. This is a very important issue for our country. Kazakhstan has made significant progress on key indicators in the fight against corruption. This is an assessment of international rating agencies. But don't be complacent. Unfortunately, corruption has taken root in people's minds. This is true, albeit bitter,” Tokayev said.
