A popular supermarket chain in Astana has introduced a restriction on the sale of potatoes, limiting purchases to no more than 5 kilograms per person, reports the national portal “Adyrna,” citing Tengrinews.kz.

A notice regarding the sale of potatoes has appeared in one of the capital’s supermarkets, stating that only 5 kilograms of first-grade potatoes can be sold per person.

Authorities have commented on the situation. The city’s Department of Investment and Entrepreneurship Development stated that there is no potato shortage in Astana.

“A temporary restriction has been introduced on the sale of potatoes in the Small and Spar chains to prevent wholesale purchases. Here, no more than 5 kilograms are sold per person,” the department explained.

Additionally, the Ministry of Trade confirmed that there is no potato shortage in the capital or Kazakhstan as a whole.
