The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, held a working meeting of the republican headquarters on coordination of anti-flood measures and elimination of the consequences of floods, the national portal "Adyrna" reports.
The main problem is the situation in the western regions on the eve of the second wave of floods.
Vice-Prime Minister Kanat Bozimbaev reported that large amounts of water are expected from the Russian Federation through the Zhayik River. It will rain in West Kazakhstan region. The level of Sakmar river started to rise. According to forecasts, water will reach the territory of the West Kazakhstan region in the second decade of April from the upper reaches of the Zhaiyk and Sakmar rivers.
"Currently, the water level in the Zhaiyk River in the city of Urals is 728 cm, and it is expected to approach the dangerous level of 850 cm. Due to the arrival of water from the West Kazakhstan region, a slight rise in the water level has been observed at hydro stations on the Zhaiyk River in Atyrau Oblast in the past day," the report says.
