Kuanysh Nurgazin, the brother of foreign opposition politician Mukhtar Ablyazov, was arrested at the Almaty airport on July 24 and taken into custody. This was reported by the General Prosecutor's Office, the national portal "Adyrna" wrote.
The prosecutor's office called Nurgazin's "accomplice" Ablyazov's brother Kuanysh Nurgazin. He said that his brother returned to the country voluntarily.
In addition, the General Prosecutor's Office names Kuanysh Nurgazin as the nominal director of "BSC" LLP headed by Ablyazov. Ablyazov and his accomplices write that they embezzled large amounts of funds from BTA Bank by illegally lending money to this company.
"Ablyazov and his accomplices embezzled large amounts of funds from BTA Bank by illegally lending to this company," the prosecutor's office wrote.
The prosecutor's office claims that Nurgazin, being a defendant, violated his obligation not to go anywhere and hid from the court in order to evade criminal responsibility.
"He hid in the territory of Lithuania for 12 years and received refugee status there. Nurgazin expressed his desire to return to Kazakhstan on his own accord. On July 24, after passing passport control, he was arrested and imprisoned in a temporary detention center. Taking into account Nurgazin's age and state of health, on July 25, the court transferred him to be sent home," the prosecutor's office said.
