Incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, leader of the right-wing National Rally party, will run in the second presidential election. Preliminary results of the first round have been announced, the national portal Adyrna reports.

According to the French Interior Ministry, after processing 84% of the ballots, Macron received 27.3% of the vote in the first round, while Le Pen received 25.2%. In third place was Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of the far-left Invictus France party, with 20.1% of the vote. None of the other candidates scored 10 percent.

In addition, according to BFM, the current French leader received 29% of the vote, Le Pen - 24%, Melenchon - 20%. Earlier, the French Interior Ministry said that in the first round, the turnout was 65%, which is four percentage points lower than in 2017.

Macron said he had not yet been re-elected after entering the second round.
