At the plenary session of the 34th Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about the status of the state language. This was reported by Akorda, according to the national portal “Adyrna.”
“Today, nearly 80% of graduates take the Unified National Test in the state language. This year, for the first time, more than 70% of children starting school will receive their education in Kazakh. Of course, in our country, citizens should not force each other, or someone speaking from a podium, to ‘speak this or that language.’ Attempts to use the language issue to create discord in society or to destabilize the internal situation will be strongly opposed and punished by law. This also refers not only to individuals within the country but also to provocateurs abroad who engage in destructive actions on behalf of certain organizations and with foreign funding,” said Tokayev.
According to him, at last year’s National Kurultai meeting, unity, patriotism, independence, and harmony were named as the core values of the state.
“Everything begins with these values. So, I want to emphasize once again: those who try to disrupt the unity of our people and sow discord in the country will be strictly held accountable in accordance with the law and will receive the appropriate punishment. On the other hand, citizens who contribute to strengthening harmony and unity will always be highly respected,” he said.
