A Kazakh film won top honors at an international competition. The film, which made a significant contribution to the domestic film industry, was directed by renowned stuntman, director, and actor Galymbek Karaturik.
More than 200 works competed at the most popular festival in Eastern Europe. After over three months of selection, “The Captured Light” was recognized as the best short film. According to the director, Galymbek Karaturik, the screenplay is based on a true story.
In the film, the main character is portrayed by stuntman Edil Symahulov, while supporting roles are played by professional actors.
The film tells the story of a blind thief’s son who can only see at night. His son, born the same way, follows in his father’s footsteps, also able to see only at night. Eventually, both meet their tragic fate. The eye condition is known as “achromatopsia,” and the film is titled “The Captured Light” in reference to this condition.
“The main message of this film is that whatever you do will come back to you. It shows that a person who does good will meet a good end, while someone who does evil will meet a bad end. The film also features philosophical details related to natural phenomena. For example, there are scenes such as the eclipse of the sun or a lone bird flying towards the light,” says Galymbek Karaturik.
He also mentioned that he is working on several major projects for the Kazakh film industry, which he will announce soon.
